At the 3GPP ran\96 plenary session of the international organization for standardization of mobile communications held from June 6 to June 9, 3GPP officially defined the u6g (upper half of 6 GHz, i.e. 6425-7125 MHz) authorized spectrum with the frequency band number of n104, defined the corresponding network / terminal RF standards, and provided a standard basis for the subsequent industrial chain to develop 6 GHz products. At the same time, the conference decided to approve the rel-18 project for the full 6GHz spectrum (5925mhz-7125mhz), which is a key milestone in the IMT of 6GHz spectrum.

Mobile communication has become an important pillar of national development strategies around the world. Ensuring the sustainable development of the mobile industry is the key to supporting national digital transformation. The Global Association for mobile communication systems (GSMA) calls for each country to open at least 2GHz if spectrum between 2025 and 2030 to meet the 5g rate requirements proposed by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU). As an important part of the if spectrum, 6GHz (5925-7125mhz) can take into account the coverage advantages of low frequency and the capacity advantages of high frequency. It can popularize 5g large bandwidth services at a low cost per bit, enable the sustainable and innovative development of 5g emerging applications, and accelerate the process of social digital transformation.

On December 17, 2021, 3GPP ran plenary session decided to start the standardization of u6g as a new band authorized by IMT. After half a year, the standardization of u6g authorized new frequency bands was successfully completed, which is the result of the cooperation of global telecom operators, network equipment manufacturers, terminal and chip manufacturers, instrument manufacturers and other industrial partners, and shows the determination of the mobile industry to accelerate the promotion of u6g IMT. In the future, the industry chain will develop u6g mobile networks and terminal products according to the RF standards defined by 3GPP, and promote the sound 6 GHz IMT ecology. Currently, leading countries and operators have carried out 6GHz IMT field test, and it is expected to realize the pre commercial deployment of 6 GHz IMT by 2025.
