The electromagnetic radiation emitted by base stations is different from nuclear radiation and X-rays in hospitals. The radiation energy is relatively low and not enough to damage the molecular structure of the human body.
And some radiation is beneficial to the human body, such as sunbathing.
So, what is the allowable range for base station radiation in the country?
The power of the device is generally 4-10W, which is converted into a wireless signal ratio of 36-40dBm, plus the gain of the base station coverage antenna of 20dBi, which is 56-60dBm.
If this kind of power is irradiated on a person, no one can bear it, and it is guaranteed to become barbecue.
But in the range of our lives, there are a lot of air, dust, various sounds, and various objects that can block a lot of electromagnetic radiation. Therefore, when high-power electromagnetic waves are emitted from the base station antenna and reach us, they become very weak.
When a person is 100 meters away from the base station antenna (straight-line distance), the electromagnetic radiation power is generally -40 to -50dB, which does not cause much harm to the human body. When a person is 500 meters away from the antenna, the electromagnetic radiation power is generally -60 to -70dB, and when a person is 1000 meters away from the antenna, the electromagnetic radiation power is generally -80dB. At this time, some phones with poor quality may have changes.
According to the national standard of the People’s Republic of China “Regulations on Electromagnetic Radiation Protection”, i.e. international GB8702-88, the limit values for electromagnetic radiation are:
The average value of the field parameters of environmental electromagnetic radiation for any continuous 6 minutes within 24 hours of public exposure should meet the power density requirement of 0.4W/m2 (frequency range from 30 to 3000MHz) (equivalent to 26dB)
Occupational exposure, during an 8-hour working day, the average power density of electromagnetic radiation strikes (for 6 consecutive minutes) should be less than 2W/㎡ (frequency range of 30-3000MHz) (equivalent to 33dB)
Radiation standards for base stations
In order to strengthen electromagnetic environment management and ensure public health, China integrated and revised the “Electromagnetic Radiation Protection Regulations” (GB8702-88) and “Environmental Electromagnetic Wave Health Standards” (GB9175-88) in 2014, and issued the “Electromagnetic Environment Control Limits” (GB8702-2014), which was officially implemented on January 1, 2015.
According to this standard, the power density of the communication frequency band should be less than 40 microwatts per square centimeter, while the US standard is 600 microwatts per square centimeter, which is a difference of 15 times.
Industry insiders say that considering the overlapping levels of base station signals, the construction of mobile communication base stations follows a standard of one-fifth of the national standard, which is less than 8 microwatts per square centimeter.
National standards are formulated based on long-term exposure, and human exposure to radiation fields is safe regardless of how long it lasts, without the accumulation of radiation effects.
